Protecting Acquatic Life ! Is Ghana Aware ?

An oceanographer by  name Sylvia Earle once claimed that "Great attention get paid to rainforests because of the diversity of life there. Diversity in the ocean is even greater ". The United Nations'  Sustainable Development goals do have a goal dubbed "Life Below Water " . This goal is essential and pivotal to the life of the world . In fact , the ocean covers about seventy five percent of the Earth's surface . The ocean invariably contains about two thousand species . These species are salient to the life of all humans . Without any iota of doubt , human dependency on Oceania life can never be underestimated .

Around the world , most people engage in aquaculture,  that is , the cultivation of species in the ocean . This activity generates a lot of income both to the government and the individual . Nonetheless , due to man's avariciousness, this life below water is seriously under threat . Using dangerous chemicals such as Dichlorodephenyltrichloroethane widely known as DDT to catch fishes goes a long way to affect their lives . Also illegal mining popularly known as Galamsey destroys massively the true nature of our water bodies . These activities even come back to hunt man in the society as the latter use water for domestic purposes .

Happily , the government of Ghana has played a yeoman's role in the setting up of a ministry to holistically deal with this canker . Vigorous education should however be carried out by the Environmental Protection Agency to effectively deal with activities that cause water pollution .

Suffice to say , Ghanaians should not be lackadaisical in the fight against activities that pose threat to aquatic life . A renowned writer by name Lloyd Biggle once suggested that " Life is life's greatest gift . Guard the life of another creature as you would your own  because it's your own . On life's scale of values , the smallest is no less precious to the creature who owns it than the largest " . Mankind should be a steward to God's creation !
