Is Ghana Truly Independent?
In 1957, the first prime minister of Gold Coast Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah declared Gold Coast a sovereign state and subsequently changed the name from Gold Coast to Ghana. It is nonetheless worth noting that, history makes it clear that Dr Emmanuel Joseph Boakye Danquah suggested the name Ghana as it draws its motivation from the Old Ghana Empire. On 6th March 1957, the prime minister by then Dr Kwame Nkrumah who led Ghana to Independence clearly made a profound statement that lingers on ," Ghana ,your beloved country is free forever" . He also made a declaration by saying," the black man is capable of managing his own affairs."
In this sense , Nkrumah explicitly did refer to the white man clearly incompetent of managing the affairs of the black person. On 1st July 1960 , Ghana gained the status of republicanism thus allowing the people to elect their own leaders. Nkrumah who gained Independence for the country was overthrown by a military junta led by General Ankrah. Subsequently, Ghana became a haven for political instabilities. The country plunged into a state of heavily borrowing from the westerners. The country became a depleted heaven.
We became known for insecurities and impoverishment all around the world. As we are about celebrating this year's Independence day as always celebrated , we ask ourselves, are we independent? What shows we are independent when we keep on borrowing and embezzling money used? What shows we are independent after we keep on implementing policies that hardens the citizenry pockets?
Wowwww......what a mesmerising piece of writing
